Navratri is a festival in dedication to the Hindu goddess Durga. The festival spans nine days and nine nights which represent the duration of her battle with a demon known as Mahishasura. After a long battle she emerged victorious and Hindus celebrate her and all the forms of Durga Devi on these days.
